Magnetic Levitation Vacuum Pump Upgrade for Paper Mill in India

Scopower provided an energy-efficient vacuum system upgrade for a paper mill in India, replacing traditional liquid ring vacuum pumps with a magnetic levitation vacuum pump to improve performance and reduce operating costs.

Project Background

The client is a packaging paper manufacturer in India with an annual production capacity of approximately 50,000 tons.

In the press section dehydration process, the plant originally used two liquid ring vacuum pumps operating in series, which led to several operational challenges.

Existing Challenges

  • High energy consumption
  • Excessive noise during operation
  • Continuous water supply required
  • Impeller wear and frequent maintenance
  • High annual maintenance costs

These issues significantly increased the plant’s operating expenses and reduced system reliability.

Our Solution

After on-site evaluation and technical analysis, Scopower proposed a one-for-two replacement solution, using a single magnetic levitation vacuum pump to replace the two existing liquid ring pumps.

The system features:

  • Magnetic bearing technology (oil-free, frictionless operation)
  • No mechanical contact, reducing wear
  • No lubrication system required
  • Fully meets required vacuum level and airflow

Key Benefits

Energy Savings

Significantly reduced power consumption compared to traditional water ring pumps.

Low Noise Operation

Improved working environment with reduced noise levels.

Water-Free Operation

No need for continuous water supply, saving water resources.

Reduced Maintenance

Eliminates impeller wear and reduces maintenance frequency.

Lower Lifecycle Cost

Minimizes long-term operational and maintenance expenses.

Conclusion

The adoption of a magnetic levitation vacuum pump provides a highly efficient and sustainable solution for paper industry applications, especially in vacuum dehydration processes.
